Acholi Creative person Fighting for Dominance

Dec is normally a festive month in which Christians gloat the nativity of Christ Jesus. Jesus'south ministry teachers united states of america love and peace and his nascency is a reason for commemoration.
However, Thursday December 1st, 2016 the Daily Monitor reported that Police had in custody 2 Acholi prominent artists; Lucky Bosnia Otim and one Maria A for allegedly clobbering colleague to blackout.
The two artists; Lucky Bosmic Otim, the President Nile Republic Music Coiffure and Maria A were arrested that Tuesday.
The arrest of the duo comes days post-obit the recovery of Denis Okello a.k.a 2pee from blackout on Friday the previous week.
Artist 2pee who as well works for Vision Grouping's Radio Rupiny, slipped to blackout subsequently existence attacked on his manner habitation. He sustained three deep cuts on his head. The attack was blamed on iron striking men wreaking havoc in Gulu town alee of the Christmas season.
However, its alleged Lucky Bosmic Otim was behind this attack hence the arrest that had been made.
Co-ordinate to Luotunes.com, a leading online music platform for Luo music; after Bosmic was released from police detention on bail; he immediately rushed to studio with Nu Clear Uganda and did a collaboration song titled, "Jii Oribo Dogi". In this song he alleges that he is only existence implicated by not well intentioned people.
A few days later he composed some other vocal titled, "Lulweny Alibu". The song relates his innocence in the death of Male monarch Jazz and the beating of 2pee of the goggaflow music genre fame. He mentions names of those he believes are responsible for his troubles and urged them not to attend his burial if he dies as he will not attend theirs.
Luotunes.com continues to assert that after releasing the audio of "Lulweny Alibu" the "Legend" released another song titled "Osangala" and the video is out.
This didn't go well with another artist Opio Twongweno who had been mentioned in his previous music production. Twongweno also striking the studio and did a lakubukubu song titled,"Wilobo Olanyo Omera" literally meaning my brother is defeated in life and on the path of cocky-destruction. He urged leaders to come relieve him but insinuates he is open up to his "beefiness" and will take it caput on.
Anybody should be wondering the cause of this conflict. Why are these much older artist "lamentatory each other? Why this "beef" is also serious to cause public animosity and possible expiry connected relations?
In my stance, this is the fight for Luo music authorisation and music infinite. These are ability struggles in the Luo music industry. It'due south about who is the biggest almost respected music artist. And if you dominate Luo music, and you are the biggest and about respected artist then yous volition earn more than from being the main artist during shows with amend chances of international invitations from the Acholi in diaspora.
What do these artists take in common? All of them are pioneer artist in the Lakubukubu genre of Luo music. All of them are self-made and sympathise the importance of power and potency in the music industry; all of them take their sights on international contracts to earn more and show their authorisation in the music industry.
Permit's not forget that all of them are nether immense pressure from new exceptionally immature talented artist who potentially are more exposed like Preacherman, Okeng built-in town, Pato Lovaboy, Kodaman,Cityboy and Lambert Dickson and many others. Therefore survival is at that cadre of this conflict. It'due south clear; a few are beginning to focus their attention outside music without a career exit plan. Near of these young artists were their music peg boys.
This music rivalry in many ways reminds usa of the "beef" between Tupac Shakur and Biggie of the East Coast and the West Declension fame.
The E Declension and West Coast rivalry was betwixt 1991-1997 between artists and fans in United Sates.
Hip Hop had just emerged in the 1970s on the streets of S Bronx; USA. The new genre became popular throughout the city. Just like Luo Music Lakubukubu that has become so popular that English language and western Music is nearly not played with a few exceptions.
The Notorious B.I.Thou (and New York based label, Bad Boy Records) and West Coast Tupac Shakur(Los Angeles label Expiry Row Records) used fatal vehement shootings by unknown assailants just similar the unknown assailant Iron Bar hit men of Gulu to express their feud.
In the 1990's Hip Hop was to give black community in America a voice in public just as Luo music gave the Acholi a voice during the conflict and today.
Biggie and Tupac were age mates fighting for music dominance of their time and generation. Tupac and Biggie were born less than a year autonomously. Tupac 1971 and Biggie (a.thou.a Christopher Wallace) in 1972 just like our electric current feuding musicians who belong to the same generation.
They were all friends in proficient terms with each other and now falling apart considering they feel betrayed only similar Tupac felt when he was shot v times in Manhattan in Biggie'due south neighbourhood and he did zilch to fifty-fifty neither try and trace them nor visit him in jail. Am sure Bosmic feels the same; a stiff sense of betrayal hence a strong grudge over one-time fashioned territorial rivalry.
The use of drugs in the music industry is certainly a factor. Many of these artists are allegedly abusing drugs. This is all articulate in their music lyrics and unpredictable deport both on stage and off stage. This dearest for drugs brings them together and is responsible in my opinion for the cruel nature of feuds. There is a stiff feeling of invincibility amidst them and hope they can always get away with impunity and no one tin can finish them.
In 1993, Tupac and Biggie had their outset encounter in Los Angeles on business organisation. The Brooklyn bred rapper Biggie asked a local drug dealer to introduce him to Tupac and invited Biggie to a house political party. Tupac offered them a "big freezer purse of green vegetables they had ever seen" said an intern for Biggie label named Dan Smalls who was part of the group. That's how they became friends not until Tupac suspected Biggie of snitching to cops.
Just like Bosmic with "Jii Oribu Dogi" and Lulweny Alibu" songs with strong rebutting lyrics; After jail Tupac on suspecting Biggie, recorded songs like" Hit Em Up", " Life Goes On" and "All eyes on me" hit at Biggie and responding to the issues he had simply Biggie kept to himself on any of the bug created and didn't attempt to defend self just like BSG Labongo, Obol Simpleman except for "Who Shot Ya" released afterwards 2Pac's death so it was no counter attack. Whether this was strategy or guilt but fourth dimension while evidence the roles of Obol Simpleman and BSG Labongo and others who kept quiet.
As they say, the just thing more powerful than premature death is death a foretold. When Biggie closed his second Album, Life after expiry, with the track, "Yous are nobody, till somebody kills you" and was promptly murdered just weeks before he released it, Hip Hop's blurring life and art had characteristically reached it grisly apotheosis that they sang virtually. His nemesis Tupac had likewise merely been shot dead.
In other words, in that location comes a fourth dimension when fear gets stronger than dear and artists will practice things they are non supposed to do considering myths override reality. This is why I believe this peace meeting taking identify is unlikely to work unless myths are addressed and the upshot of power, dominance and the survival of cocky-fabricated artist are still left to be their responsibility.
In September, 22nd 1996, a peace elevation was convened at Mosque Maryan by the Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan in the wake of Tupac's murder where he called for peace just similar the January meetings chosen by Hon. Ojara Mapenduzi to call for peace between this Acholi artist.
What the peace makers forget is that these artists have followers who believe in their thinking and inspire their deportment. Tupac's thinking for his characterization believed, "Alive past the Gun, die past the Gun" so Biggie knew he was going to be gunned downwardly and and then did it happen. Therefore, how are the peace builders going to accost the thinking of this artist in 3 or 4 meetings? Thinkings are believes congenital over time and defines the persona in a person that makes them excel or fail in life.
In all this fourth dimension, the media that benefited from these feuds became heavily involved and reported on information technology continually and this caused fans and more artists who wanted to identify with their labels to have sides hence a much bigger disharmonize of ability, prominence and pay.
In view of these facts therefore, I would like to borrow the thinking of a peace scholar Edward North. Luttwak. Luttwak believes that," an unpleasant truth oft overlooked is that state of war is dandy evil, it does have great virtue; it tin resolve conflicts and pb to peace. This can happen when all belligerents become exhausted or when i wins decisively. Therefore let'southward give war a chance." Just like Dr. Chameleon, Ghetto President and Bebe Cool fought and the eventual winner is clear to all and and then does our young artist. Tupac and Biggie's feud promoted Hip Hop music and fabricated it popular giving it historical narrative that nosotros refer to today and the beloved for Hip Hop around the world.
This lakubukubu feuds like Hip Hop volition promote the new Acholi genre of music and promote our new talented artist because competition is salubrious. The process of becoming a star is non similar the coherent path to become a professor information technology should be allowed to take its own shape in the cosmos of our new celebrities. Those who master the art and game well will excel and so volition they when information technology comes to competing with their peers in Kampala and Africa. They have to get through the furnace and wither storms that are not for the faint hearted. Cowards don't brand celebrities and I have never known of one.
Notwithstanding, I also would like to bring to the notice of these artists that expressionless men don't play music. Tupac is not playing music anymore. Biggie is non playing music anymore just their contemporaries who played smart like Puff Diddy, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Madonna are still playing music today.

SPECIAL NEEDS LEARNERS DON'T HAVE TO Driblet OUT

Since I returned from Republic of uganda, I accept been broken-hearted to sympathize how the developed world handles mental health patients. I have been wondering whether at that place is potentially any cure for mental health or if patients of serious mental health can be fabricated productive again. My host is a special needs teacher, then I offered to nourish her summer special needs programme at Olson Elementary School Minnesota.

According to the quondam Programme Development and Information Officer of Uganda National Clan of the deafened (UNAD) Pascal Mutabazi in a presentation at the International Special Educational activity Briefing 2000 he asserts that, by the year 1999 Uganda had a population of 22million.Approximately 10% of this population was severely disabled, 55% of people with disabilities (PWD) lacked functional literacy, 33% just reached primary 7 and 22% accept mental handicap. During my month'southward research, I came across ane of the best brains I went with to school but he dropped out every bit a mental handicap example. I now wonder, is information technology possible for him to ever realize his dream? Is he mentally handicapped (mad) forever? Can patience with mental handicap ever be productive again? This are the questions that motivated me to attend a mentally handicap summer program literally referred to as Autism.

My findings are a story of compassion, love and nobility of our humanity. It was a normal day at Olson Uncomplicated School. The highly motivated humorous teachers arrived and registered their presence at work at the reception. They were excited to run across one another again as they chatted ecstatically almost the program and their pupils. They all seem to be where their center belongs, they were proud of their service above self as others took summer breaks. The smiles and joy of coming together me and explaining what they exercise was the most powerful feel I experienced lately. At the archway of the school were the cadre values of the school that were reflected in their faces and actions in the start thirty minutes of my time with them. The core values are: Respect; Responsibility; Integrity; Citizenship; Honesty and Teamwork. At the corridor were flags of unlike countries that reflected the background of its pupils; sadly I could not come across Uganda's flag unlike Kenya; Somali; Ethiopia and Republic of liberia. Adjacent was a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi with the inscription "alive equally if y'all were to die tomorrow, learn as if yous were to alive forever". I guess that'southward why in that location was a powerful sense of a purposeful life, a high sense of respect and responsibility; a teamwork that could simply define a truthful sense of active citizenship that coin could not buy.

Instinctually, we all moved out at 9:00 am to stand up past the school bus cease. Similar a loyal dog would follow its master, I kept with them simply to realize they all moved out to welcome their pupils from the motorbus. In that location was a unique sense of love and compassion every bit pupils and teachers shared courtesies. I realized I was alone equally all the teachers were now decorated receiving their pupils with different forms of disabilities. They looked more than than acquaintances. A stranger could not distinguish a mother'south love and that of these teachers. Those on a bicycle chair were supported to their classes as others ran effectually in an uncoordinated way as the teachers sweet-talked them like profession Psychiatrists.

The classroom is pocket-sized with all the human senses engaged. Information technology has 2 large apple desk-bound peak computers, pictures and charts all over the wall, a refreshment surface area with a water sink, eats and utensils for educatee'southward comfort in course incase they felt an empty belly or needed biscuits or sweets. Every pupil had a personal teacher referred to as paraprofessionals. Paraprofessionals support the teacher during lessons. It is a class of five pupils with five teachers. At present I know the feeling and expression on the confront of most of my African friends well-nigh grade size merely believe me I would teach a class of seventy comfortably but this is a very sensitive class, with unique demands and responses and requires close attending considering you can never predict what next. The outset task was from a figurer to wake up those notwithstanding feeling sleepy from the autobus. It was a grade of aerobics (what we did for PE sessions). Then followed music from a player to the tune of nursery rhymes equally they sang forth as others watched the action on screen. The teachers acted exactly like their pupils for a course of uniformity. These were brief chore as their concentration span is really low. Then they switched to use the Become Talk device; it'due south a vocalism output device to help with pupils with difficulty in communicating in class. A teacher would ask a question and they could press a picture of the answer as the device answered on their behalf. It's a sweet feeling to see struggling pupils who in your guess would never remember or talk or empathize press the correct button. The teachers so broke out into different seats each with their pupils and they interchanged periodically with unlike task until   they tired out. All classes then moved to the library. The librarian read for them stories like we would take with our grandparents around the fireside. She deed it with exceptional ability by dramatizing it for them to express joy and captivate their attention. I felt as if I was watching a moving-picture show every bit she giggled for her pupils to giggle back. They resumed their classes and went out to play outdoors till it was fourth dimension to go back dwelling. They wished me well and left for their buses.

I was humbled past the humility love and compassion the teachers had for what they do withal as a instructor I realized its one of the nigh hard aspects of teaching as compared to what I had for 5 years. Information technology requires a talent that is inborn, it requires a passion that coin can't compensate and its one of this traits one can't have by going to school. Its a calling and a vocation. A good student can exist trained to go to the moon only the best student would fail to do what I witnessed today.

Therefore what are the chances that my friend and many others with mental handicap volition be made productive again? What I have described and witnessed is the work of a creative customs that uses resources within their means. It only takes a responsible government that has prioritized education of its children as a foundation of a civilized country. It as well takes active citizens who are organized and prepare to volunteer their services across their fabric needs. Information technology does not have a rocket scientist to care, love and have pity for his/her brothers, sisters and children who are in need. It only takes a genuine center filled with dedication and devotion similar I saw in the faces of America's unsung heroes of humanity today. Their bulldoze to service is their pride as American citizens.

DECIDE NOW OR DIE WISHING

Make up one's mind At present OR Dice WISHING

Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions. These were the words my friend left me with this morning. My plan seems to be coming to its determination and the question every cohort is consciously deliberating in his or her minds is, "what side by side?" Today we had a very salubrious give-and-take over what career choices we will make after the programme. My colleague confided in me that he has failed to make a option of what to do. He told me a story about his first marriage. How he failed to make up one's mind whom to ally until 1 24-hour interval his ex married woman initiated a word all men dread to have. It begins like, "John, we demand to talk…" and that'due south how he concluded up having a son. Now over again, he finds himself in another land of indecision and he hates to hear what his Pastor once said. His Pastor coined the word Push button to hateful, Pray Until Something Happens.

Do y'all always discover yourself in a country of indecision? May be when you have to choose a course, what to eat, whether to apply for a job or to go married. Procrastination is a thief of time, and then go ahead and have a decision. In that location is no good or bad decision. Every body finds themselves in a land of indecision just those who succeed are those who take the difficult decisions. So how do we make decisions when we seem to fearfulness the cost of our choices?

Great achievers clearly define their choices. Never neglect to imagine or envision what you lot desire because yous cannot achieve what you lot cannot imagine. Inquire your self questions like, what are y'all so passionate about? What have you found yourself doing over and over successfully? Who practice you desire to exist like? These questions tin guide you to the elevation. The power of imagination is a blessing in every one. My colleague and I had a clear purpose and choice of what we wanted, that's why nosotros are hither.

Consult people, books, magazines, and on-line sources. This is the but time you lot tin can be a consultant without having to be an expert. Y'all don't need to know every thing to be able to make a choice just y'all need to know where to find what data you want. My word with my colleague is one way of making a great decision by consulting and making an informed pick.

You call up well through ideas when you write them down. Pick a slice of paper and pen and brand a listing of pros and cons of the dissimilar alternatives you have at your disposal. Some people have less to cull from and then when life offers them lemon, they brand lemonade out of it. While others have so much to choose from and neglect because they made life choose for them just like my colleague'due south first marriage. After your list is gear up, prioritize your needs and make up one's mind according to the urgency of your priorities. Exist certain you will never regret. Acholi take a saying, "gin ma iyero pe turi" literally meaning you never regret whatsoever choice y'all consciously make. Some decisions may seem disappointing in the short run merely somewhen if y'all cull to brand lemonade out of it, you get to love it.

Obey your conscience. The one thing you lot can never lie to is your censor. It has an alarm system in you. Study your self when your censor speaks to you. Accept time to reflect honestly about your fears, motives and bias. My colleague married the least of his options in his commencement matrimony hoping things would work information technology-self out even when his conscience was alert him. That's why she was non his first option offering for union. People similar Mandela, Martin Luther rex and Mahatma Ghandi were loyal to their conscience.

Decide now or dice wishing. Accept you ever thought of an idea and you go along thinking you will work on information technology until one day you hear some one has done information technology? That's the problem with indecision. Over again the Acholi accept a saying,"Kong ikuu!! kong ikuu !!oweko ladwar ocubu gwok" literally meaning a hunter who over hesitates ends up hitting his domestic dog instead of the hunted brute in pursuit. I know pre university students are undecided of what course to offering or which University to attend, some 1 reading this is undecided on who to appointment and you must be undecided on whether to utilise for that dream chore. 2 years ago we decided nosotros wanted to go to graduate schoolhouse in America's finest city and here we are, enjoying San Diego. Decide now and I will see you at the superlative.

FOUR MONTHS: MY AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

4 MONTHS: MY AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

How would y'all business relationship for your terminal four months in America? I imagine this would be my late father's question, if I were to appear before him today. My late Dad had a penchant for an accountable life in School. He ofttimes summoned his children and dependants to account for their academic life. When I started paying school fees, I afterwards realized he was bookkeeping to himself if his efforts to educate u.s.a. were worthwhile. Many friends, family unit and strangers accept supported me to exist here and I imagine they would require that I business relationship for their good efforts and intentions. So, what take I learnt?

Cocky reliance-do information technology yourself self-culture. (Tim kikumi)

I come from a culture where every bit a married man, meals are prepared for you and placed before you lot on table. Your laundry is some one else' responsibility. If you are lucky, they choose for you what to put on. Coming to America has been such an experience. A good host will await y'all to visit the refrigerator and help yourself. I e'er wondered why every fourth dimension I visited bookstores in that location were many books on how to melt. It's a do it your cocky civilisation here.

I once visited a laundry outlet. There was no one but I could observe the machines washing and drying clothes. A few folks would pop in without proverb a word non fifty-fifty greeting and would just pick their wearing apparel and go out. The Ugandan mentality of non paying for service dropped in my mind and just so I saw cameras all round the room. After blowing out 30min. I realized some matter is not correct. Hither people observe my space and would likely never bother to ask if yous have a problem. I greeted an old man with the hope I could ask for guidance and how to use the machines. He meant his business and never fifty-fifty turned to await at me. I thought it was my accent, so again I gave information technology one of my latest African American accents. All he did was point at instructions on the motorcar. I had to do it my cocky. Even when there are many people around you, there is no one to talk to. That's how solitary America tin exist for immigrants. Africa prefers a oral civilisation where there is always some one to enquire or talk to merely America is a written civilisation from the departure lounge to buying a soda, there is a motorcar to talk to. Now you know how much I accept been reading. Learning here is more experiential. Even in class, at that place is no spoon-feeding, in that location is so much that y'all take to practice by yourself. Every body is then busy that you demand to schedule fourth dimension on line most times to encounter them. You just don't crash-land into some 1 and set the calendar. Have you lot ever imagined how to travel in the trams (buses)? Taxis are very expensive. To pay for our bills, we had to Google our route, print it and use a GPS system on our phone to identify the nearest bus terminate. This was such a nightmare especially when we took a bus to down town instead of old town. Its all practice information technology your self. I then imagined my visit to Kampala where my uncle was delegated the responsibleness to escort me till school. That is a story for another solar day.

Wisdom and knowledge.

The motto of my elementary schoolhouse is wisdom and noesis. Wisdom comes with historic period. The lone life in America leaves you more time to look back in life. I phone call these moments of wisdom. Your judgment is very critical in many things here. America has many options for both good and bad. Information technology takes wisdom to requite guidance and focus to yourself on what life way yous want. In my life, I accept never been programmed like the concluding iv months. Time is such an of import aspect of difficult work in America that 1 tin can drib out of school non because they are less intelligent but considering they accept mismanaged their time and are overwhelmed with academic piece of work. A graduate student is approximately having 800-1000 pages every week to read and write a reaction paper on. After two months its both reaction paper and accept home assignments. The semester began with an assumption that we all know what a reaction paper was. My Ugandan background was such a disservice here. Then there is the reading civilization in Uganda. Averagely by Ugandan standards I read a lot but not every bit much as I needed, to go me ready for all this reading. In a class of less than xx you tin't hide behind the crowd like our UPE classes. Information technology's a workshop-based blazon of learning. Your participation earns y'all marks. Yous tin never abscond from class because attendance earns you marks simply attendance here means participation. Y'all can never participate if you have not read. At the beginning, very often you would here some one shoot out in search for marks…"for example the Mato Oput in Uganda." Then silence dropped in when it got more technical and facts based on the reading and assay. It'south so much mental work that others drop out.

The hurting of dropping out is much more than with those who remain in the struggle than those who quit. Others develop serious stress and depression. In one of our lectures on trauma healing, the professor asked the course to identify when they ever felt depressed and open. More than half of the class just began to cry. 1 thing virtually the northern war is that it has fabricated us more than resilient to difficult a situation that makes us emotionally stronger. I realized that as human being beings nosotros are actually weak. Behind the great faces nosotros see every day lies subconscious pain in our lives.

I have learnt then much about transitional justice, disharmonize assay and resolution that I no longer expect at the Kony issue equally a national business organization but with the pretext and context of global events. The relevance of the program to my northern Uganda experience has made it and so easy to develop expertise in these areas. The new access to information I had never known of exists. The social network I have got with other peace practioners and the mentoring of swell peace practioners are all resourceful attributes of the program. This was an opportunity to chronicle our disharmonize to conflicts around the world. I at present know how much to appreciate those who placed our conflict on the map of the globe amidst all this conflicts in the world that I had never heard of. There is no dubiousness that the skills I take acquired from academic writing to intellectual debates; assay and international conference presentation skills are the hallmarks of my time here. This is what a relevant education system should do to gear up one for the task market.

Self-awareness and personality evolution.

The opportunity to come across and know the movers and shakers of peace processes around the earth has given me a refined focus and purpose to pursue Peace studies as a career to the terminate of my career life. I am more self-aware now than I accept ever been before of who I am, what I can practice and what I cannot practice. I know where I am going, that's why I go on writing this blog post, I do hope some day I tin tell how things have changed and how events changed my perspectives. I am documenting my life. I do realize that while I have been a chatterbox, I am at present a better listener and more analytical on ideas. I have chosen to concretely build my self on the values of love, subject field and responsibleness. I am a peaceful human being at peace with himself. This reminds me of what my high school instructor used to say, "There is no school better than its students" Ideally many people identify with values they got from their schools. That's why I nevertheless acquit a white handkerchief and white stockings.

In my next update, read about my first winter experience.

TEN STEPS TO A SCHOLARSHIP

Ten STEPS TO A SCHOLARSHIP

Taking a walk for physical fettle is a civilization in America. A few weeks ago, I chose to take a walk with Walter my host, to stretch out and learn more almost road signs and my road back home. In Uganda, residences are identified by physical futures like big trees, colors of the gate or the nature of the building to mention but a few. Here, residences have numbers and routes are identified through mastery of numbers, streets and zip codes. The metropolis is so large that folks employ Global-positioning systems to navigate their way to new places. Most phones take it and paper maps.

We had walked for over 30minutes,chating virtually habitation and recent events in Uganda. Walter left Uganda 25yrs ago. All of a sudden, there was a very idea provoking silence. Walter slowed down and asked me, "David how did you get the scholarship?"

This is a question I am sure many people take in heed. I will share with you ten of the nearly important steps to be admitted to an American University with a total lath scholarship.

STEP 1: Excel in School. There are over a m Educational Institutions in U.s. that honor degrees and scholarships. Each University is looking for the all-time candidate to get a good name and rise up in the rankings of public and individual Universities. If you lot have an opportunity to study, requite it your all-time shot considering it could turn out to be a jackpot for you. There are many students who underestimate the Universities they go to because of Ugandan stereotype of Makerere University existence the best University and most considered. My colleague Alex and I are graduates of Gulu Academy.

STEP TWO: Research most Universities and programs. It's believed if you want to hide a secret in Africa put it in a book. Brand Google your best friend for as long as you oasis't got a scholarship. Detect out more about which Universities offer degrees with scholarship or which scholarship opportunities are in that location. Click every link because there is over a million links to a scholarship. Go to know more near Universities of your interest and their Missions. This is important because you lot will tailor your curriculum vitae and argument of intent to adapt that Academy. Read any literature that has data on scholarships and Universities. There are a number of workshops past Embassies and Educational exhibitions in Kampala about Universities. Invest and go and listen to them. The all-time time to get-go researching is NOW.

STEP Iii: Employ Now. Procrastination is a thief of time is the greatest maxim applicable hither. The best test of your delivery and dedication is the application process. The best communication I got is from some 1 I loved to hate for telling me the truth. Sarah works with the only Graduate Record exams (GRE) centre in Uganda that I know. It's in Republic of uganda house building 8th floor. It was the biggest burden to find out where their role is and the merely take a chance last year to sit for my GRE. Beyond my imagination, I had to "cough" $ 250 or risk doing my GRE after the deadline. Fourth dimension matters in all this, as you volition realize in my reasons to follow. I asked Sarah, how many people become scholarships in a year that she gets know later on doing their GRE.

She responded less than ten compared to over 300 students who sit from at that place. Now this is scary, but dissimilar people make different errors during the application procedure. Again, she is not enlightened that I got the scholarship as I write so don't requite upwardly. Her communication therefore was to use to not less than five Universities for my chances to go amend. Considering the fiscal dynamics in Uganda, this was real "Pesa" for the application process. Most awarding deadlines are mid December.

STEP 4: Write the all-time Curriculum vitae and identify the best referees. During the application process, the about common error is the type of C.Vs we write. Be as elaborate as possible. Preferably consult any friend who has ever attended western Pedagogy or those with masters or doctoral degrees. Example, many people apply what they used to apply for their outset or second jobs. If you have indicated that you have been Chairman of AMSA. What is AMSA? What was your part? How does it make you relevant for the written report you want to take?

The 2nd mistake is virtually Universities prefer Doctors or professors as your referee. Don't choose a person who doesn't pick his telephone or i who opens his mail once a calendar week. Y'all will miss out on of import data. Many of the Universities here prefer their alumni simply do understand likewise the difficulty with International students. Choose a person with a valid workplace accost for integrity confidence in what they say about you lot. E.g. alikerdavid@gulu-univesity.edu. Added reward is to doctors whose books are widely read or referred to. Conspicuously indicate piece of work experience and the different roles you have played in your community that rhymes' with the mission of the Academy or mandate of the scholarship program. Talent and extra curricular activities adds value to your candidature. Universities themselves are obvious sources of scholarships.

Step 5: Fix early on enough for your Graduate Tape Exams (GRE). GRE is compulsory in all Universities in America. It's a standardized exam to brand sure every student is at equal potential from others from the unlike parts of the World. Its composition is Mathematics and English language. In that location is a lot of logic involved. Those with good English groundwork have a comparative reward. Information technology's non advisable to attempt the exams without preparing yourself for more two months. The Internet is a proficient source of examples and samples. In Uganda, Aristoc sells books that help prepare you. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. Remember to practice your figurer skills. Virtually deadlines are 5th January. At the end of the exam you are requested whether yous need your results posted to other Universities and you indicate them. This is another hazard at getting admitted or winning a scholarship if you get good grades.

STEP Half-dozen: Fix the best Statement of Purpose. Tell your story. A argument of purpose is as skillful every bit your transcript. Since the GRE is computer based and different people study under dissimilar circumstances, the all-time fashion to redeem your cocky of bad grades is a good statement of purpose. It helps to analyze your mental maturity and reason to pursue the programme or why yous deserve the scholarship unlike any other person effectually the world. Past providing a stiff defense or reason to authorize for the program, your chances are higher to be awarded the scholarship. Remember in graduate schoolhouse your experiences in life and work is paramount. Never make any body write for you. Write from your eye subsequently enough reflection and be objective.

Footstep SEVEN: Source for money. In Life, at that place are not then many people who demand scholarships nonetheless have enough. Choose what is a priority to you. Don't wait to accumulate plenty. You may never have enough. Starting time with what you lot have only dedicated your self to expect for funds. Bank check out with Rotary Clubs, church organizations, and your workplace. It's much easier to help ane who has tried to help him/herself. There are a number of scholarship programs that crave that y'all write an essay. Look at that as a golden opportunity, many people hate to write and you can make the difference. Allow your passion guide you to winning a scholarship. This funds volition exist vital to pay for your GRE incase you failed the starting time try. You are usually given a 2nd hazard in a unlike month. You demand books and other resources similar admission to Cyberspace. The application fee in most Universities range from $fifty to $100.Then on acceptance to the University you remit some other $50 and Sevis form from the University of $ 200. The skilful thing is yous don't need all these at one time. It's all spread out in over a year.

Step EIGHT: Never Assume. There is a large misconception that to qualify for a scholarship 1 must have all directly AAAs. Bookish distinctions are important, however there are ever exceptions to all laws. Some scholarships focus on experiences. Rotary Scholarships require academic excellence but also cherishes greatly ones ability to promote peace and one should non exist a Rotarian. The hope is that yous eventually become one. Gulu Rotary club has been sending out Non Rotarians and linking people to scholarships over the last three years. Again, ever dare to ask. Ignorance of the police may be an offence but ignorance of an opportunity is non an offence. Ask and you will detect, knock and the door will be open up goes the biblical allusion. In that location is always some one you can consult. Social media like face book, tweeter and blogs tin be very helpful in finding out more.

STEP 9: Don't become scammed. Don't permit yourself to become desperate like I have known many times particularly getting Visas. Exist careful whenever you lot choose to pay your awarding fees. Cross bank check by calling the telephone lines or request technical questions. If you know of some one who studied in that location ask. Look for them on social media and introduce yourself so enquire your question. There are a number of links or search websites that crave payment, unless certain ignore them. Virtually helpful sites don't ask for payment since they are dealing with students.

Step TEN: Never Never Give Up. My first attempt was 2002 later on finishing my undergraduate program. Manually and computer illiterate I received pamphlets, Magazines and books from Oxford Brooks University in the Uk. It failed. Then, in 2004,I was amongst, the start people to be bamboozled by so Presidential legal adviser Nava Nabagesera. Those who read about it in Uganda Media will remember it ended in court for others. I dropped the thought and ignored my ii-yr savings every bit a classroom instructor. In 2008, while representing Invisible Children at Uganda North America Convention in Orlando, Florida. I talked whatsoever body that had fourth dimension to listen to me into buying my idea. It flopped miserably. In 2009, afterward a speaking engagement in a fundraising drive for BOSCO Uganda at Indiana State-U.s., a gentle man (Mike Morin) walked to me with his wife and offered $1000 for BOSCO then asked me what he could do for me equally a person. Guess my answer. Acholi take a saying "gin ma Rubanga oyubu piri pe kwok" Any God has planned for you lot will indeed always be yours. Surprisingly, I have non been applying but wishing and hoping some one tin aid. The showtime fourth dimension I applied I got myself a fully funded scholarship. Start Applying, stop wishing and hoping some ane will help you. You will get disappointed. Y'all never disappoint your cocky. Gin ma iyero pe turi. That's why Mike Morin is my Hero. He made me do what I had never done apply for my dream.

You can choose to make me your Hero.

ORIENTATION WEEK AT UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO

KROC Institute OF PEACE AND JUSTICE STUDIES

ORIENTATION Calendar week AT UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO

This calendar week my write upward is more than informative in Nature. This has been because of the questions I received from most of my friends and family. I hope yous savour reading my piece.

"The early bird catches the worm," has been a maxim I take lived by until September 1999.By seven:00 am, I was already in a harrowing string of an endless line. Above me was an inscription STANBIC Bank-Inspired, Motivated and Involved. As a starting time yr student of Makerere University, I was Inspired, Motivated and thought of getting Involved equally a client. Stanbic Depository financial institution was the but Bank recommended by the Academy to pay Tuition Fees. As information technology clocked 5pm close of business concern hour, I had failed to pay my tuition. In that location were so many students in the queue and in that location was no gild equally Older Students and unscrupulous students maneuvered to pay at the expense of the patient gentle and less masculine students from schools with order and potent emphasis for public bear.

On a positive notation, every freshman, Pupil would never forget the business exhibition at Michel Hall, the eats, drinks, music, and dances that concluded the week of orientation to Campus life. Different Ethnic Cultural groups organized parties and open rallies to sensitize students of expected standards at the University. It was also an opportunity for Finalist to identify potential partners with possibilities of engaging them in a serious human relationship with intentions of marriage.

Last week, was Orientation calendar week at my Graduate plan. Past 8:00 am on the dot, the Dean and faculty leadership were ready to welcome the students. They had nametags for every student set and stood past to welcome every educatee in person. All the expected students were on time except ane from Afghanistan who was having immigration problems in his country to get to United states of america. I made sure I was early enough since Africans are known for poor time management. I expected to exist the starting time at the Institute merely fabricated it as the second to go far at the Plant.

On the agenda was introduction of students and staff members at the Establish. The students introduced themselves, notifying the team of their country of origin and what they were doing for a career and their goals and expectations afterward the program. Noticeable was the fact that other than Usa, it was simply Republic of uganda with two members. Coincidentally, both of them were Acholi and went to Bishop Angelo Negri College. That made me proud of my School and all were on full scholarship.

After lunch, the program of day was presentation of Capstone projects by the former students 2009/2010.They were expected to nowadays their research project to their classmates, parents and the freshmen students . This gave an thought to new students of what to expect at the end of the program. What was of great allure was a student from Afghanistan who could not brand it to the U.s.a., then he presented his Capstone on skype for the whole squad. In that location later on, all were invited to a yard Graduation reception at the IPJ Gardens of the Sea.

Orientation is a one-week program. During this time numerous activities that would make life for new students easy were carried out. International students had a special session to guide them on important issues while in the The states similar Clearing issues, job opportunities and health Insurance concerns.Students were given a bout around the University. Dinners and parties were organized. Harbor cruise and fun at the many beaches were organized. Orientation to the nearby shopping centers in the City was besides organized. Send is a big claiming in the Urban center, so about every one drives while a few used bicycles, buses and trolleys to get around the Urban center.

The American Education Organisation has some significant differences from the Ugandan Education Arrangement. Republic of uganda follows the British Organization where Exams are compulsory. In the American System, at that place are no Exams only a series of assessments based on your participation in form, accept home assignments and a Capstone Paper. Different the Ugandan Education Organisation of lecture Pedagogy, handouts or notes and minimal use of Library books, the American organization is more of a workshop format and a lot of personal reading with the assistance of both the book library and e-library. Unless you lot read you lot tin never submit in grade. This method enhances a lot of creativity from the student and makes 1 a "book warm" to use Ugandan slang.

The limerick of my class is of great involvement to me, we near have half of the conflict areas around the world represented. Information technology's the smallest class I have attended with 29 students as compared to 300 students at Makerere University. My current class is considered the biggest class in the IPJ faculty. The profile of the professors has been infrequent. You get the feeling you are existence trained by the best the globe has to offering in their different fields.

Unlike in Uganda,  where the curriculum plan is designed past the faculty for the subsequent years. Here, Students choose what composition of course curriculum plan they would similar to attend and every student is assigned a lecturer to discuss his/her choices. The most attractive feel is the intendance and attention given students. It can only come close to how Sheraton Hotel Staff would attend to their customers. Students are really valued and respected. At present, this reminds me of my Undergraduate lecturers who enjoyed bullying and scaring their students in exchange for respect. Not forgetting the huddles of consulting on a lost result or consulting on unclear ideas from a lesson. The University Identity Carte is linked to your depository financial institution and can serve as your ATM card. Information technology's a x-minute process unlike the three months process of accessing Academy Identity Cards. At the University eating place or bookstore this Card qualifies you for a good discount.

Information Communication Engineering (ICT) is a core basic requirement of the University. From the application procedure,  to the presentation of your Capstone projection on skype. The Library is well connected on computers and students don't queue to utilize them. Students clear with the international office and immediately receive a new University e-mail accost and access to the University Cyberspace hub. All details of the educatee are automatically entered on his page. There is provision for paying for meals or  purchasing books on line. Academic performance is tracked on line. Your parents tin follow your results direct from your country on line. Even you accounts balances are open to you online and systematic budget of your scholarship is articulate on your page. All notifications become to you through the mails including required links to readings resources. All that a student needs is got on his page on line similar Maps,Public holidays or relevant events etc. The student then has admission to any book on line fifty-fifty from other Universities Libraries or whatsoever bookstore for as long equally the students needs it for his studies. It'south the responsibleness of the University to provide information technology in 24hrs incase its not in the University Library.

Conclusively, the biggest challenge is that Republic of uganda has a very oral culture and America has a writing civilisation. From the Visa application process, through to air travels and guidance to identifying any residence. All information you demand is written somewhere for you to read, while in Republic of uganda you demand to discover some i to enquire or enquire from. This may seem more convenient but fourth dimension wasting and less reliable since y'all take to wait for that person to be in office or in adept moods. This means the literacy level is actually loftier. This is a reason for us Ugandans to develop a reading culture since information technology looks a universal appeal to read every education or information y'all need. A lot volition change with this civilisation as the ICT sector develops in Uganda. America is a great place because both the old and young work and so hard and know how to manage their resources. This is both Public and private resources. For at present I have to get back and read.

My next write upward volition be on how to get a scholarship in a United states university.
